Temu Credit, Gift Cards and Coupons: How They Combine

At Temu checkout you may have three kinds of saving at once: credit in your account, a gift card balance, and a coupon or promo code. They look similar in the order summary but behave differently, and mixing them up is behind a lot of “my coupon disappeared” questions. The simple version is that a coupon lowers the price, while credit and gift cards pay part of what is left.

The three, in plain terms

A coupon or promo code is a discount. It is checked against your cart, its minimum spend and your account status, and it reduces the order total. Temu credit is a balance in your account, often from a price adjustment, a refund to balance, or a promotion. It works like money you already hold. A gift card balance is money loaded from a Temu gift card, and it also works like a payment method, not a discount.

What stacks and in what order

In the checkouts we have tested, the coupon is applied first because it changes the price. Credit and gift card balance are then used against the discounted total. That order matters for minimum spends: a coupon that needs a $30 subtotal looks at the cart value, not at what you pay after credit. So using credit does not usually stop a coupon from applying. If a coupon drops off when you add credit, remove the credit, confirm the coupon holds, then add the credit back. That tells you which of the two caused it.

What happens on a return

If you return an item from an order that used a coupon, the refund is normally for what you actually paid for that item, so the coupon’s share is not paid back as cash. Credit and gift card amounts usually go back to the balance they came from. Can I buy a Temu gift card with a coupon?

Gift cards are generally excluded from coupon discounts, as they are at most retailers, so buying one to get around a coupon rule does not work.

Does Temu credit expire?

Some promotional credit does, and balance from refunds usually lasts longer. Your wallet page shows the end date for each amount, so check it rather than assuming.
